Monyetla Bursary Project Annual Prize Giving Ceremony

On Saturday 8 August, our annual prize giving ceremony was conducted on the UFS South Campus.  This year, there were 70 entries for the TOP 20 achievers competition. Each of the 20 students were rewarded with R1000 for their excellent results in the June examinations. The prize money was sponsored by the Auditor General and PwC.  The lesson to our learners: “Hard work pays”. While most schools report a drop in pass rates in comparison to other years, our best achievers did better than the top 20 from other years. Learners especially excelled in Mathematics, with many scoring above 80%. Here are some of the results of our Grade 12’s:
  • Katleho Sehloho scored 100% in Mathematics in the mid-year examinations. He also obtained a 85% mark in Physical Sciences. He is from Moroka High School in Thaba Nchu.
  • Thabiso Dhlula from Goronyane Secondary School  obtained 97% in Accounting.
  • Busi Mavundla from Saint Michaels School scored 94% in Maths.
  • Kamogelo Mothupi achieved 90% in Mathematics and 88% in Life Sciences. He is from Christian Liphoko in Thaba Nchu.
  • Fusi Lenkoane from Lefikeng in Botshabelo scored 90% in Accounting.
  • Jeandre Cupido obtained 94% in Business Studies. He is from Grey College.
  • The highest overall performance came from Abigail van Rooyen from Eunice High School. Her results were: 96% for Maths; 92% for Accounting; 90% for Economics and 91% for Life Sciences.
On Saturday 15 August, representatives from the South African Actuaries Development Programme will meet with our Mathematics students to inform them about bursaries to study in this field. The meeting is scheduled for 11:00 in room B3.
Also on 15 August, auditing firms will meet with our top 40 Maths and Accounting learners and their parents to discuss bursaries and careers at these financial institutions. The meeting is at 13:00 in Room B3.

Bursary applications from the Free State Provincial Government, will be finalised towards the end of August.  Raubex bursary forms must be handed in on 29 August.       
The following bursary applications have been finalised:  THUTHUKA; FUNZA LUSHAKA and ROYAL HASKONING DHV.

The sports’ day on the UFS main campus will take place on 5 September. Learners who wish to participate, should register for this event on 15 August at room A3 at Vista. They should pay R20 which they will claim back on 5 September when they attend the sports day. Learners who register for the sports’ day by paying the R20, but are absent on 5 September, will forfeit this deposit of R20.
